Application Schedule for the 2009-2010 class:

METU Applications are now closed: 1 May 2009 - 5 June 2009, Friday, 5:00pm.

METU interviews will be on June 16 and June 17, 2009 in METU Social Sciences Building - B131 between 10:00am - 5:00pm. All students who have submitted an application form will appear before the admissions committee. The interviews will be in English. Students with German proficiency may be asked to answer a few questions in German.

Students with last names A (Ak) to I (Incekara) will have their interviews on June 16, Tuesday between 10:00am - 5:00pm.

Students with last names K (Kanadıkırık) to Y (Yılmaz) will have their interviews on June 17, Wednesday between 10:00am - 5:00pm.

GeT MA: AN OVERVIEW

The German-Turkish Masters Program in Social Sciences (GeT MA) is a unique, interdisciplinary, integrated Masters Program at the Berlin Graduate School of Social Sciences (Institute of Social Sciences) at the Humboldt-Universität and at METUs Graduate School of Social Sciences. All students attend their first year of studies in Ankara and their second year in Berlin.

Courses in Political Science, Sociology and International Relations offer students a specialized perspective on politics and society in Turkey and Germany, German-Turkish relations as well as the European dimension of domestic and foreign politics in both countries. Furthermore, students gain practical experience through an internship in either Turkey or Germany between their first and second year.

Upon completion of the program, a Dual-Master of Arts in Social Sciences is awarded from both Humboldt and METU. The GeT MA prepares students for international careers in government agencies, NGOs, administration, journalism and in research.

The GeT MA welcomes applications from students worldwide who have obtained a BA or equivalent in a relevant subject and possess English and intermediate German language skills.

APPLICATIONS

Application Period: 1 May 2009 – 5 June 2009, Friday, 5:00pm. (All supporting documents need to be turned in by the deadline)

Requirements:

1. B.A. or equivalent degree in any discipline of social sciences or humanities. [Students whose B.A. degree is not in social sciences or humanities, but who has a prior M.A. or M.Sc. degree in social sciences or humanities can also apply.]
2. GRE Quantitative 610, ALES 55.
3. TOEFL PBT 213; TOEFL IBT 79; IELTS Academic Module 6,5; METU-EPE 64,5 (Students CAN apply WITHOUT a valid English proficiency score. They, however, need to submit their official registration for one of the three valid English proficiency exams (TOEFL, IELTS, or METU-EPE) by the application deadline (June 5, 2009). Students will then need to turn in an official score report by June 29th, 2009 to be eligible for evaluation. Students who want to take the METU-EPE need to register for METU-EPE at METU School of Foreign Languages by June 16, 2009). METU-EPE has two-parts ( on June 18th and June 23rd) and its results will be announced before June 29, 2009.
4. Statement of Purpose (in English).
5. Two Letters of Recommendation. [Recommendation letters can be from university professors, language instructors, supervisors, advisors, or co-workers.]
6. Any German language certificates, exam results, or transcripts you might have. [Students are NOT expected to have German proficiency during the application. They will be provided German language instruction as part of the GeT MA program. Students can take their graduate courses either in German or in English during their year in Berlin].
7. CV (in English).
8. English writing sample (1,000 to 5,000 words). [The writing sample can be any student homework, paper, senior thesis, or essay. It will simply be used to assess the written academic English level of the applicant]

Date and Place of Interview: Admission interviews will be held both at METU, Ankara and Humboldt, Berlin. Students can attend either of the interviews. METU interview will be on June 16 and June 17, 2009 in METU Social Sciences Building - B131 (METU campus map). For the date of the Humboldt interviews, please check with Humboldt University.
